Drive for Life.. hmm Maybe..

Today Pat McNeely from Drive for Life kindly came in and spent the day with us educating us about how important it is to drive safely!

I have never been so shocked in my life. People are killed everyday, due to some of the foolish and stupid people out there not wearing seat belts and showing off and not driving the way they should. Pat gave us some extreme figures about how many people die every year.

It really opened our eyes when we saw Horrific and Unbelievable images of car crash and how many injuries and how its an easy cause of death if your not careful!
We saw video clips of how this affects their families and if they survive crashes how the injuries affects the rest of their lives.

The pictures were graffic but it just shows how easily .. actually 7/10 seconds for the crash to happen!

People are careless and breaking the law all the time. They don't care or think about the consequences of their actions. Statistics show that Women are better drivers than Men!

It really opened my eyes to how important wearing a seat belt is. I can't believe that Ireland is high on the scale of Bad Driving!

One of the things which effect bad driving is Drink and Drugs Driving. A lot of people intent to drink a few and think there okay to drive home when really they are putting their lives at risk and whoever is in the car with them!

It was a really good day and.. well.. lets just say I need to practice my test before I go for the actual one!
It was a great day and i learned so much :)

The Countdown Begins..

It just like hit me that we have a week and a bit left in school :o Am actually going to miss TY soo much :( It's been a brilliant year!

Next Monday.. we are hosting our TY Night and our parents our invited! Its to display everything we've done this year and showing our parents what we've got up to and where we went :)

It's going to be amazing night.. showing off our dancing skills like Zumba and Charleston, our acting skills like participating in The Briery Gap Competition, our angel like singing Seasons Of Love (our TY song) <3 we've little surprises but being an MC I can't let you know all the details ;)

I hope everything works out and it runs smoothly :)

Incoming "TY Heads" :D

This blog is dedicated to the incoming TY's so listen up carefully..

Girls, what a year you're going to have :) This is the year to really go for it! The expression "What you put into TY is what you get out of it".. is sooooooooo true!

Tips:

Make friends :)

Do everything you want to :)

Get your projects done asap! Because other projects come along and you forget some are due and its sooo stressful. So get them out of the way and relax.

Join sports and get involved.

And last but not least..

ENJOY EVERY MINUTE OF TY!

HAVE FUN :)

Reflection on Transition Year :)

Its all nearly over and gosh what a year its been!

Looking back on the year is crazy! I really enjoyed the year sooo much :) I've made SO MANY new friends it's unreal that's one of the best things about TY. It was amazing getting to know the people in my year :)

Am so glad i did TY, I definitely was not ready to go straight in 5th Year, I don't think I would have taken it seriously at all and with all the studying I would have probably had a melt down.

The amount of opportunities we've had to experience new things and  the places we've gone to is shocking.. shockingly amazing. I think that this year was for me :) I would really do it all over again, i don't regret anything! :)

At times I regretted doing TY so much! I just wanted to get into 5th Year and do some actual work and no more projects! I felt it got too much with all the projects that were due and all the trips! There was a lot of responsibility. I think that a lot of TY is based on responsibility.

But those days were very temporary, the next day i would love TY all over again :D I have never been on a bus so many times in one year! The trips were so much fun :)

Another great thing has been all the trips we've got to go to, they were always so fun and educational at the same time! Bet you didn't think that could happen.. Well guess what it happens in TY :D The opportunities taking part in competitions were amazing, like : The Young Scientist, The Drama Competition, Sci-Fest, Mini Company, they've been really good fun too :) It also gave us a chance to meet new people and learn new things.

We've got to try Subjects as well that we'd never done before like Home-Ec, Art and Tech :) I've made pretty cool things like a Key-Ring, Key-Holder, and a Phone-Holder :)

One of the things that always makes me smile when i think about TY is the memories I have of this year! And believe there are A LOT! It's amazing to think about the amount of friends I've made, the amount of new skills i have and everything that I've learnt just in TY!

Am leaving TY with more than i started with :)

It's been such amazing year! And Mrs.L has done an amazing job :) Couldn't imagine another TY Co-Ordinator! She has been so patient, caring and a lot of fun and tried to get the best things for us to do :D

Overall its been a super amazing year! I'd do it all again :) I had the best experience ever and i have so many memories to look back on too :D

Gaisce Banter! :D

Hey Everyone :)
Sooo on Friday the 27th of April about 30 TY's headed off to the great Kippure Estate in Co.Wicklow where a 25k Hike awaited us :)

We left Wolstans with full of excitement and enthusiasm! When we arrived we were sorted into our houses :) I was in Gryffindor House Number 5, along with 10 other girls :D We soon met our Instructors Darragh, Stephen and Wayne. We then headed off on our 13k hike for the first day :)

The hike was.. long.. very long.. and tiring kind of ,there was a lot of steep up hill walking on the Friday! Everyone was very chatty and eager to do the hike which in some way made it easier to get through! For some of us it was hard work but others flew up those mountains! :) Along our journey we got to sit down every now and again and snack but! one thing that was absolutely mind blowing was the scenery! WOW it was amazing! The view from the mountain was fantastic! Everything was sooo still and so peaceful it was definitely one of the most amazing thing that we got to experience! We also visited on of the tombs on the mountain which had a little passage way and we all got to go through and take lots and lots of pictures!
The walk back down wasn't so easy either :L There was a lot of falling and stumbling followed by lots of laughter and photos :)

As we walked back to our house from a 4 hour Hike there definitely was a sense of excitement and ... hmm FOOD? :D
Yesss we were absolutely buzzing! Everyone brought the food they wanted to devour in.. Things like Pizza, Chicken Dippers, Pasta, Waffles, Sweet Chili and Rice were among those that had been stuffed in the fridge and freezer :)  We all sat around and ate up everything on the plates! We were hungry.. after all that walking, talking and hiking :)

After our meal it didn't stop there.. then we whipped out the chocolate, crisps, popcorn and coke... THE WHOLE LOT :D

As we settled down into the sofas and had the chats we decided that nothing could make this moment more special than watching HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL..... NUMBER 2!!!!! :D

Yes.. yes we did.. we a group of 16 year olds sat together.. in the sitting room and watched HSM <3 of course Miss Sarah herself entertained us with the dance moves :D Then we really were feeling cringy and watched Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging (love) and then it didn't stop there .. then came Wild Child (sooo amazing)!!

Ohhh and i failed to mention by the second movie.. it was 3 o'clock...
Oh and we had to be up in a few hours!! ... :o

So when the third movie came along.. we had only 1 hour and a half before we had to get up and do a 12k hike ... WOOOOOOOP!

We woke up the next morning by the loud knock on the door at 8 ... Noooooo :(
We made breakfast and rushed to get out of the house for the rest our hike. We left at 9:10 and headed for "the more challenging" and tricky part of the mountain.

I thought out of the two days.. Saturday was harder.. It was more steep and mucky (that part was fun) but it was still a lot of fun. As we walked up through the mountains we had lost a lot of our energy and excitement from the lack of sleep. But still were very keen on completing our challenge :)

We ended the day with some fun activities with our group including; The Leap of Faith, Rock Climbing, Abseiling and lots more :) It was a great way to end the trip :)

Gaisce was one of the most amazing things I truly enjoyed in TY! :D I would definitely do it again :) It was a tough challenge but when complete a 25k Hike.. that's an achievement! I truly did feel soo happy I completed it. Not only was it a challenge it was also a lot of fun with everyone!!

Big thanks to Ms. H, Ms O'C and Mr K :D Had so much fun with them too! :D

Good Luck Ladies :)

Eurokay to save the day ;)

Hotel Rwanda :)

Hey Everyone :)
So in Religion class we were on the topic of conflict and genocide we watched to movies regarding those topics. We watched Sometimes in April and Hotel Rwanda.

Hotel Rwanda is an important and carefully crafted film well worth seeing. Set in Kigali, the capital city of Rwanda, during the genocide of April and May 1994 Hotel Rwanda is a sensitively made film. Unlike many Hollywood films it is neither gory nor distasteful. This film focuses on the incredible true story of Paul Rusesabagina, the assistant manager of Milles Collines Hotel. By ingenuity, good connections, bribes and bluff, Paul managed to save the lives of 1238 Tutsis from the genocide.
This is an engrossing, gripping and ultimately uplifting film showing how one person can make a difference even amidst the worst conditions. Over 500 000 Tutsi Christians were systematically slaughtered in the Rwandan Genocide. More people were killed with machetes in Rwanda in 6 weeks than have died of atomic weapons in all of history!

With Hotel Rwanda, Terry George crafts a script with delicate detail to expose the harsh reality of terror and hatred. This movie is about the fight; an ongoing battle for love, heritage, community and freedom. Hotel Rwanda goes the extra length beyond the death tolls, facts, and figures to a place that warms the heart. This film shines on the big screen not only as a heroic journey, but a way to channel the importance of peace in our world.

THE HUNGER GAMES! :D

Aaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh :D So recently i've been reading The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins its actually sooo amazing :)

It is written in first person and introduces sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives in a post-apocalyptic world in the country of Panem where the countries of North America once existed. The Capitol, a highly advanced metropolis, holds absolute power over the rest of the nation. The Hunger Games are an annual event in which one boy and one girl aged 12 to 18 from each of the 12 districts surrounding the Capitol are selected by lottery to compete in a televised battle in which only one person can survive.

Thats basically the jist of the Hunger Games!!

GOT MY TICKET TO SEE IT ON TONIGHT! :D Yeeeeesssssssssssssss :)

Am on the second book right now called  Catching Fire :)

The first book is called The Hunger Games!

St. Patricks Day Banter :D

On friday we got to dress up for Paddy's Day Weekend :) We got to dress up as what ever we wanted as long as it was irish! I came in, in my irish dancing dress as an irish dancer! We had a great day and everyones brings in €2, and all the money collected goes to charities of our choice, its a great cause :D

At lunch time everyone gathered in the hall for dancing and some great music! The bant was had!! :D Congrats to all the prefects for their wonderful work in organising the day.

For the weekend, i went out to all my friends, i was going to into town but last year wasnt the best so i didnt want to relive those days :(

It was definitely very eventful day anyway :D

Quit yo' Jibby Jabbing you ain't hurt.. If I catch you acting like a crazy fool again ima send you to BRAVEFORCE! :D

Oowwww.. that is the response after yesterdays incredible day out at BRAVEFORCE Puddenhill in Co.Meath! Oh my god!! It was actually one of the best days of TY! Soooooooooo amazing :D

Well we before we actually hit the road we have a talk on Internet Safety.. it was scary just to think of all the things that can happen to you on the Internet if you are not safe! I went home and went through all my friends list and deleted everyone who i didn't know and wasn't sure who they were! And went through privacy settings and put a sticker on my webcam.. its a scary place out there! :o :( It was definitely an eye opener to whats out there!!

But soon after that we got changed and got ready for the adventure that awaited for us! :D And then 70 TY Heads hit the road for an amazing day :)

Once we got there we were all syked for the mud, water, and obstacles! Though the weather was unbelievable cold! Like teeth were shattering! :o We also found out that two other schools were going to be joining us in the race.. a 3.5 km race ..which most the girls did not take so lightly!

We all warmed up and did some exercises! And then the wild crazy adventure began :D
We ran through obstacles and ran through very very cold water.. they weren't exaggerating when they said some people experience shock when they enter the water!

It was actually such an amazing day!! Loved every second of it and i would do it again :) Definitely one of the most brilliant day in TY :D

Thursday 15 March 2012

Jembe Session!

On Monday TY class Banba got to experience the world of African Drumming! :)
It was good fun with the whole class! Dave (our instructor) told usthat if we forget everything about drumming the one thing he doesnt want us to forget is thats drums Jembe and not Bongo's!! We learned lots of new skills about how to play the drums and not just slap your hand on it making random ... terrible sounds.
We also got to try African Dancing :) That was sooo cool :D Something different :) The sounds we made were so much fun and really awesome! Everyone got to try different Jembe's and shakers and maracas and the whole lot! It was such an interesting day all togther we even ended the day with a litle competition - we had to see how fast we could get the Jembe's into the special bags and into Dave's van :)
...Unfortunetly it took us a whole 4 minutes! :( It was a great day! Definitely a day TY's will always remember :D

Slán :) xo

Wonderful World of Work! :)

So i spent a whole week in Scoil Naomh Bríd! It was so much fun :) I was with the two 2nd classes which was great! I also helped with a 1st class group too :) I think one of the reasons why i loved it so much was because it was my old primary school and everyone was sooo welcoming and lovely and i also knew everyone which brilliant! :) It was SO nice to go back and see my old teachers, they were so nice to me! So glad i went!
I did lots of different things like i laminated, i went on a nature walk with junior infants (they're just fab little kids) i made loads of posters for the classes, i helped out in PE classes and Irish dancing during the week, i also read "The Witches Apprentice" to both of the 2nd classes , they loved it!

The classes that i was with were great! They were small so they were very nice and funny with the things they said!
I would definitely recommend it! Only if you like children and working with children and you have to be patient. I had a great week and am so happy i went there! I definitely learned a lot about myself, i am very good with children and i would love to work with them! I learned that my patience is pretty good but its shocking to see how much you need throughout one day(depending on the children you work with!)
It brought back a lot of memories which made me think back in the days where i was school, and the little things we use to say!

It was a superb week :) I really enjoyed it the work was really good to :D

Shout out to monique :) It her birthday today:D HAPPY BIRTHDAY MONIQUE :D Can't wait for the party ;) x

Home Sweet Home with Brigid!

Hey! :)

Yesterday, we visited Kildare town the hometown of St.Brigid :)
We started off watching a video about the history of Kildare! We were in this little shop where you could buy souvenirs and little gifts for people, and lots of paintings and objects showing Brigid's love and care for animals.

Next we walked up to the Church of Ireland! The layout of the church was in the shape of the cross! It was a  really nice and beautiful church and we each got to ring the bell!

The church windows had a different saints in the each stained glass window! It was very interesting to see all the detail that went in each window! :D We went outside where we saw the round tower and St.Brigid's kitchen : no dishwasher and microwave!! SHOCKING :O

Then it was a trip to starbucks! :D Where i treated myself to some Lovely and Warm hot chocolate and an amazing shortbread chocolate biscuit! Mmmm it was gooooood :D

Then we went to visit two of St.Brigids Well! It was sooooo peaceful and relaxing, the sound of the water running and nature at its best! I loved it :) It was really good trip i got time to think to myself and just enjoy the day!

There was  A LOT of WALKING!!

But i actually really enjoyed the trip, i think it was because i was wrapped up and warm for the day and the journey home was me sleeping on the bus :)

St.Brigids was a pretty great woman alright!! :D
